Principal investigator
Marcos Netto joined NJIT in January 2023 after being with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) for four years. His research focuses on understanding, characterizing, and controlling the dynamics of electric power grids. Netto is a recipient of the NREL Director’s Postdoctoral Fellowship and has contributed to multiple projects funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. He served as principal investigator in a project that pioneered the implementation at NREL of a data analytics platform based on streaming data, suitable for developing and testing applications for the real-time operation of power grids. His work appeared in the best papers session of the IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting and received a student contest award. Netto worked in the private industry for over seven years with stints on power transmission system operators, software developers, consulting firms, and high-voltage equipment manufacturers in Brazil and the United States.

Openings
Our team has multiple fully funded Ph.D. openings for Spring/Fall 2026. We are looking for strongly self-motivated individuals with knowledge of dynamical systems, estimation, and control theory; a background in electric power systems is a differential but not required. We encourage students from applied math and other engineering fields to apply.
If you are interested, please apply here and email me after you submit your application.
